Islamabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan along with members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a sit-in outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, after being denied access to meet the founding chairman of PTI, as reported by local media outlets.
In video statements en route to the prison, Aleema accused the state of breaching legal protocols, asserting that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has committed no unlawful acts, according to Dawn, a leading daily in Pakistan.
She remarked, "If they operate unlawfully and we adhere to the law, and if they are justified while we are not, it highlights the dysfunctionality of our system." Aleema Khan pointed out that her brother has been barred from seeing his personal doctor for over 14 months.
She questioned, "What is the problem in allowing one doctor to visit Imran Khan?" She further stated, "When Nawaz Sharif was incarcerated, a doctor was present with him all day to monitor his platelets," and asked, "What kind of system is this?"
Along with PTI members and supporters, Aleema Khan reached Gorakhpur Market, approximately a kilometer from the prison, before police intervened, as reported by Dawn.
Sitting near police barriers, she declared, "This is unconstitutional and illegal. Why is Imran Khan being kept in isolation and subjected to torture?" She accused the authorities of contravening the Constitution and legal statutes.
Since his imprisonment in August 2023, Khan has faced a multitude of charges, including corruption and terrorism, following his ousting through a no-confidence vote in 2022.
On December 2, Imran Khan's sister, Uzma Khanum, indicated that her brother's health was "fine," despite enduring mental torment.
After visiting him at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, Uzma Khanum stated, "Imran Khan’s health is stable. However, he expressed anger over being subjected to mental torture. He spends all day in his room, with only limited time outside, and has no contact with anyone."
Subsequently, on December 4, Pakistan's federal government prohibited Uzma Khan and others from meeting Imran Khan for allegedly violating prison regulations.
Pakistan's Law Minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, stated, "Political discussions are not permitted within prison regulations, and it has been reported that such discussions took place, thus meetings with Uzma Khan are now prohibited."
Last week, Imran Khan submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court, requesting permission for medical tests and examinations at Shaukat Khanum Hospital within three days. The PTI founder filed the petition via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
The petition requests the court to mandate monthly medical evaluations and tests for Imran Khan at Shaukat Khanum Hospital, along with full access to medical personnel and examinations in line with his medical history and current health condition, as reported by another leading daily, The News International. It also seeks a copy of the medical report for Imran Khan’s family and its presentation in court.
