Islamabad, Oct 24 (NationPress) An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has ordered the seizure of the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport of Aleema Khan, sister of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. This decision came after she failed to appear in court regarding the November 26 PTI protest case despite multiple summons from the court, as reported by local media.
During the hearing, ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued the order while addressing the FIRs filed against Aleema Khan and others linked to the protest by PTI last November. This ruling follows the issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan for the fourth time, as she has repeatedly missed court appearances.
On Friday, the court instructed authorities to freeze Aleema Khan's bank accounts and mandated the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Directorate of Immigration and Passports to enforce these orders. Additionally, the court directed the confiscation of property belonging to Aleema Khan's guarantor, Umar Sharif.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah noted that while Aleema Khan has been publicly active, she has not attended court proceedings. No legal representation was present for her, although the special prosecutor Zaheer Shah and ten other accused were present during the session. The hearing was adjourned until October 27.
This case is associated with the protest on November 26, which saw PTI supporters enter Islamabad despite a ban on public gatherings, leading to clashes with law enforcement at D-Chowk. In response, police resorted to using teargas to disperse the demonstrators. This three-day protest was initiated to urge the government to release Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023 on various charges, including corruption and terrorism.
