New Delhi, Sep 15 (NationPress) On Monday, thousands of Starlink users encountered significant internet disruptions and a complete service outage as billionaire Elon Musk's satellite internet platform experienced issues once again.
As reported by outage-monitoring site Downdetector, there were close to 50,000 outage reports by 10:01 a.m.
"Starlink is currently undergoing a service outage. Our team is investigating the matter," the company stated on its website, though no specific reasons for the outage were disclosed.
According to Downdetector, 59 percent of users reported internet troubles, while 40 percent suffered from complete service loss, and 1 percent faced poor connectivity. The disruption primarily affected customers in various U.S. states including Virginia, Louisiana, Indiana, and Washington. Additionally, some users in Colombia reported connectivity issues.
While some users noted the service was down for just a few minutes, others experienced outages that extended beyond 20 minutes.
Although Musk has not yet commented on the situation, numerous users took to his social media platform X to voice their frustrations regarding the outage.
One user expressed, "Starlink is down again. These outages are becoming more frequent!" Another added, "Another Starlink outage AGAIN…. I thought it was just my connection, but now I see others are having problems too."
In July, the satellite internet service faced a global outage lasting nearly three hours.
On Thursday evening, Starlink’s services were also disrupted, affecting users across various continents, with outage tracking platforms showing increased reports from North America, Europe, and parts of Asia.
In a post on X, Musk apologized for the inconvenience and assured users that it would not happen again.
Starlink delivers internet services through a constellation of satellites orbiting the Earth. The company operates the world's largest satellite constellation, comprising over 6,750 satellites in orbit, and has a presence in 150 countries, including India.
Currently, Starlink has received approval from Indian authorities and has been assigned trial bandwidth. The company has also identified 17 locations for ground stations, which will facilitate connections between its low-earth orbit satellites and terrestrial fiber and data networks. The launch is anticipated by the end of 2025.
