New Delhi, Sep 15 (NationPress) The Delhi Police have apprehended the BMW driver, known as Gaganpreet, who tragically collided with the motorcycle of a senior Finance Ministry official, resulting in his death and leaving his wife in critical condition, officials confirmed on Monday.

The deceased, Navjot Singh, served as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs within the Ministry of Finance. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, was riding as a pillion passenger and suffered severe injuries.

Authorities reported that the accident occurred on Sunday near the Delhi Cantt metro station, as the couple was returning home from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. A case has been registered under appropriate legal provisions.

Investigators revealed that the BMW was operated by Gaganpreet, while her husband Parikshit was in the passenger seat.

Rather than taking the injured couple to the nearest medical facility, the accused allegedly drove them nearly 17 to 19 kilometers away to Nulife Multi-Speciality Hospital in GTB Nagar, which officials indicated is associated with someone known to the accused.

This choice has prompted serious concerns, as multiple hospitals were closer to the accident scene.

Nulife Hospital Director Shakuntala Kumar confirmed that Singh and his wife were admitted on September 14 following a road accident involving a BMW and a motorcycle.

"We promptly administered first aid and alerted the police. A man, approximately 50-55 years old, was brought in deceased, while his wife had multiple injuries. She requested to be moved to another hospital, so after providing initial care and notifying the authorities, we allowed her transfer," Kumar stated.

She added that both the BMW driver and her husband were also treated in the hospital's Emergency Department.

"The woman driving the vehicle has been discharged, while the man sitting in the passenger seat has been referred to a higher-level facility for further care," Kumar noted.

Immediately following Gaganpreet's discharge, she was taken into police custody.

Authorities also mentioned that Gulfam, a cab driver who transported the injured parties to the hospital post-accident, will be summoned shortly.

Investigators aim to question him about the rationale behind transporting the victims from Dhaula Kuan to Mukherjee Nagar, as well as the entirety of the route and circumstances surrounding the event.

The couple's son has raised concerns regarding the decision to move his parents to such a distant hospital.

"My parents were returning from Bangla Sahib when they encountered the accident. For some reason, they were taken 17 kilometers away to a hospital in GTB Nagar. My father has died, and my mother is gravely injured," he expressed.

He further alleged that the BMW driver, Gaganpreet, who brought his parents to the hospital, appeared to have injuries herself, yet the hospital has not clarified her condition or status.

He also accused the hospital of being evasive and potentially aiding in the creation of a false medico-legal certificate for Gaganpreet.

When authorities arrived at the accident scene, they discovered the BMW overturned on the road, with the motorcycle positioned near the divider.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have indicated that additional details are forthcoming.
