New Delhi, Sep 15 (NationPress) Gaganpreet Kaur, the driver of a BMW that collided with a motorcycle in Delhi, resulting in the death of Navjot Singh, a senior official from the Finance Ministry, and causing severe injuries to his wife, Sandeep Kaur, was apprehended by the Delhi Police on Monday.

Earlier that day, the police had already detained the BMW driver.

Authorities reported that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday near the Delhi Cantt metro station as the couple was returning home from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. A legal case has been filed under the appropriate sections of law.

According to investigators, Gaganpreet was driving the BMW, with her husband, Parikshit, in the passenger seat.

Instead of taking the injured couple to the nearest medical facility, the driver allegedly transported them approximately 17 to 19 kilometers away to Nulife Multi-Speciality Hospital in GTB Nagar, which officials noted is connected to someone known to Gaganpreet.

This choice has raised significant concerns, as multiple hospitals were located much closer to the scene of the accident.

The Director of Nulife Hospital, Shakuntala Kumar, confirmed that Singh and his wife were admitted on September 14 following the crash involving the BMW and the motorcycle.

"We swiftly administered first aid and notified the police. A male, around 50-55 years old, was pronounced dead upon arrival, while his wife sustained multiple injuries. She requested to be transferred to another hospital, so we allowed her to leave after providing necessary emergency care and notifying authorities," she explained.

She also mentioned that both the BMW driver and her husband received treatment in the hospital's Emergency Department.

"The female driver has been discharged, while the man in the passenger seat has been referred for further treatment at a specialized facility," Kumar added.

Shortly after Gaganpreet was released, she was taken into police custody.

Additionally, officials indicated that Gulfam, a cab driver who transported the injured individuals to the hospital post-accident, will be summoned for questioning.

Investigators plan to inquire about the rationale behind the victims being moved from Dhaula Kuan to Mukherjee Nagar and about the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The couple's son has expressed doubts regarding the decision to transfer his parents to such a distant medical facility.

"My parents were coming back from Bangla Sahib when the accident occurred. For some reason, they were taken 17 kilometers away to a hospital in GTB Nagar. My father is deceased, and my mother is critically injured," he stated.

He also claimed that Gaganpreet Kaur, the BMW driver, appeared to have sustained injuries, but the hospital has not provided clarity about her condition or whereabouts.

Additionally, he accused the hospital of being uncooperative and possibly aiding in preparing a false medico-legal certificate for her.

Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, officials discovered the BMW overturned on the roadway and the motorcycle positioned near the divider.
