Europe warming twice as fast as global average, 2025 climate extremes break records

Europe is warming at twice the global average rate, making it the fastest-warming continent on Earth, according to the European State of the Climate Report 2025 released on 30 April 2025 in Geneva. The joint report by the EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) documents a cascade of record-breaking climate extremes across the continent in 2025, from unprecedented wildfires to Arctic heatwaves, signalling that climate change has moved from a future risk to a present-day crisis.
