Paris, Nov 17 (NationPress) The Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jets and the French Air and Space Force Rafale aircraft took to the skies on Monday, marking the commencement of coordinated missions as part of the bilateral air Exercise Garuda.
In a post shared on X, the Indian Air Force announced, "Exercise Garuda has officially commenced. Indian Air Force Su-30MKI and French Air and Space Force Rafale aircraft have taken to the skies, initiating coordinated missions as part of the bilateral air exercise. This engagement enhances strong interoperability and deepens defense cooperation between our two air forces."
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is actively engaged in the 8th edition of the bilateral air exercise 'Garuda 25' alongside the French Air and Space Force (FASF) at Mont-de-Marsan, France, from November 16 to 27. The IAF emphasized that this exercise will boost interoperability, promote the exchange of best practices, and fortify defense collaboration between both air forces.
The IAF contingent is utilizing Su-30MKI fighter jets for this exercise. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, "Airlift support is being facilitated by the C-17 Globemaster III during the induction and de-induction phases of the exercise, while IL-78 air-to-air refueling tankers are being employed to enhance the range and endurance of the participating aircraft."
Throughout the exercise, the IAF's Su-30MKI aircraft will engage with the French multirole fighters in intricate simulated air combat scenarios, concentrating on air-to-air combat, air defense, and joint strike operations.
"The aim of this exercise is to refine tactics and procedures in a realistic operational setting, enabling mutual learning and fostering interoperability between the IAF and FASF. Exercise Garuda 25 also offers opportunities for professional engagement, sharing operational insights, and exchanging best practices between the two air forces," the statement further noted.
"Participation in this exercise reiterates the IAF's commitment to constructively engage with allied foreign air forces through multilateral exercises, thereby promoting mutual understanding and cooperation in air operations," it concluded.
