Damascus, Jan 25 (NationPress) Syrian security personnel have detained a large number of fighters following allegations of extensive abuses within the central Homs province, as reported by a monitoring group.
As per the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, these arrests are part of increasing attempts to mitigate sectarian strife and re-establish stability in areas previously controlled by pro-regime factions prior to the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad's administration in December, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The Military Operations Administration, functioning under Syria's current leadership, has reportedly taken into custody individuals from factions engaged in security activities in northern and western Homs, stated the Observatory.
The apprehended fighters are accused of executing summary killings and targeting minority communities in various villages.
Simultaneously, the state-run Al-Thawra online newspaper reported officials in Homs condemning the incidents in the village of Maryamin, describing the abuses as an "unacceptable violation of religious beliefs and sacred sites."
