Syrian Leader Engages in Distinct Phone Conversations with UAE and Iraqi Officials

Damascus, December 1 (NationPress) Syrian President Bashar al-Assad conducted individual phone conversations with leaders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iraq regarding recent events in Syria, cooperation in counterterrorism, and diverse regional challenges.
As reported by the state news agency SANA, during his discussion with the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, al-Assad emphasized Syria's steadfast dedication to safeguarding its stability and territorial integrity "in the face of all terrorists and their backers."
The UAE president, in response, stated that his nation "stands with the Syrian state and supports it in combating terrorism, extending its sovereignty, unifying its territories, and achieving stability," as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing SANA.
Additionally, al-Assad spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, who remarked that "Syria's security and stability are closely tied to Iraq's national security."
Al-Sudani noted that the security situations in both Iraq and Syria are interconnected and influence regional security and the pursuit of stability in the Middle East, according to a statement released by the Iraqi prime minister's media office.
On Wednesday, a significant rebel offensive shook the western countryside of Syria's Aleppo, marking the first notable attack since 2016. This offensive involved a coalition of rebel factions, primarily Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an al-Qaida-linked extremist group, attempting to breach government-controlled areas.
On Friday, the rebels successfully seized portions of Aleppo after having been expelled from the city in 2016.
In retaliation, the Syrian government, supported by Russia and Iran, initiated airstrikes and ground operations to counter the rebel progression.
