In a concerning statement, the SSGC indicated that the nation's gas reserves could be cut by half by 2027.

The SSGC is also pursuing initiatives in biogas, nitrogen production, and gas extraction from coal to cater to the country’s gas demands.

The ongoing gas shortages in Karachi continue to impact daily life, causing increasing frustration among citizens due to the limited supply and surging prices.

Residents from diverse areas have voiced their dissatisfaction, highlighting the significant challenges posed by the worsening scenario.

On February 2, the former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticized the current government's handling of economic and political crises in the country, asserting that Shehbaz Sharif's administration prioritized power retention over national interests while ignoring global warnings, as reported by Dawn.

In a statement, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram condemned the government for a 300 percent raise in parliamentary salaries to shield them from inflation, while placing additional burdens on the common populace through rising gas prices and fuel costs.

He described the increases in POL and LPG as the result of the government's anti-poor strategies that would further worsen the hardships faced by the underprivileged.

The SSGC assured that gas supply would be maintained during Sehr and Iftar periods, according to their announcement.

Pakistan's gas reserves are diminishing by 8 to 10 percent annually, the company disclosed in its statement.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) has forecasted the sighting of the Ramadan moon for 2025, as reported by ARY News on Monday.

Earlier, on January 1, the government of Pakistan declared an increase in the price of high-speed diesel by PKR 2.96 per liter and a rise in petrol prices by 56 paisas per liter, as reported by ARY News.

In November, opposition parties criticized the Shehbaz Sharif-led government for hiking petroleum prices, claiming it would further burden citizens already suffering from inflation.

Several leading opposition parties, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan's PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami, expressed their discontent with the government's decisions.
