Hyderabad, Sep 27 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, the native village of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Kondareddypally, has emerged as India's second and South India's premier village to become 100 percent solar-powered.
Thanks to the government's ambitious green energy initiative, Kondareddypally proudly claims the title of South India's first entirely solar-powered village.
Situated in Vangoor Mandal within Nagarkurnool district, this groundbreaking project encompasses 514 residences and 11 government establishments. Currently, 480 homes benefit from 3 KW rooftop solar panels, while schools and government offices harness power from 60 KW solar units.
An official statement reveals that even the 34 mud-brick houses will soon be included as pucca homes are developed under the Indiramma housing program.
Each household now produces approximately 360 units of electricity monthly, ensuring a steady power supply and eliminating the burden of monthly electricity costs.
The uniqueness of the Kondareddypally initiative lies not just in self-sufficiency but also in income generation. Excess energy is sold back to the grid at Rs 5.25 per unit. In just September, the village sold one lakh units, garnering nearly Rs 5 lakh. This initiative is touted as a pioneering example of villagers transforming into green entrepreneurs.
With a project cost of Rs 10.53 crore, it benefits from a Rs 3.56 crore subsidy from the central government, Rs 4.09 crore in CSR funding from Premier Energies, and Rs 2.59 crore for infrastructure development.
The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) spearheads this project with active community involvement.
Residents of Kondareddypally take pride in their newfound self-sufficiency while also contributing renewable energy to the grid of Telangana.
Officials herald Kondareddypally as a model solar village, seamlessly merging modern technology with rural lifestyle. This initiative is a significant step in the Telangana government's commitment to reducing carbon footprints, promoting renewable energy, and bolstering rural economies.
Once a typical village, Kondareddypally now stands as an extraordinary testament to how government vision, corporate backing, and community engagement can drive sustainable transformation.
