Imran Khan Critiques Pakistani Judiciary for 'Inhumane Treatment' of Bushra Bibi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Islamabad, March 24 (NationPress) Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has expressed deep concern regarding the barbaric treatment of his wife, Bushra Bibi, in prison.
Kasim Khan, the son of the imprisoned ex-Prime Minister, took to the social media platform X to share that he spoke with his father on March 21, who urged him to relay a message.
In his message, Imran accused the Pakistani judiciary of sacrificing its ethical standards and unfairly targeting his spouse.
"The judges in this nation ought to feel ashamed. Time and again, we sought justice from the courts. Yet, they have compromised their principles for personal gain. They realize they cannot break my spirit, so they turn to my wife. How can they permit this barbaric treatment of Bushra Bibi just to manipulate me? She endures 24 hours in isolation, with merely 30 minutes of our time weekly—often disregarded," Imran stated, as shared by Kasim on X.
"It goes against Islamic values to harm women, children, and the elderly—their intentions are obvious. Judges bear the responsibility of upholding justice in society. They should feel ashamed of their actions," the former Prime Minister continued.
Both Imran and Bushra Bibi have been imprisoned since August 2023, currently held at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
On Monday, Imran underwent a third eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), raising concerns from his party regarding his treatment in the absence of family and personal physicians.
A hospital statement indicated that the PTI founder was brought to PIMS for a third round of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.
"The injection was administered, and he was monitored for stability before being returned to Adiala Jail," a senior doctor informed Pakistani daily Dawn, adding that the procedure involved an injection in the eye chamber.
In a statement to Dawn, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram emphasized the party's insistence that treatment be carried out in the presence of personal physicians and family.
"We demand that Khan Sahib be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive medical evaluations," he added.
Concerns regarding Imran Khan's eye condition, diagnosed as right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), first emerged in January. His initial medical procedure on January 24 was disclosed by the government five days later.
Since then, the opposition has accused the government of failing to provide transparency regarding the situation and not facilitating appropriate medical care for Imran Khan, alongside restricting access to his personal physicians. The government has dismissed these claims.
