In a pioneering move for the Indian Armed Forces, ten women officers representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force are undertaking a global sailing expedition aboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni, which commenced its journey from the historic Gateway of India in Mumbai on September 11.
The vessel, symbolically named after the confluence of the three services, embodies the essence of jointness and collaboration among the three branches. The crew consists of five Army officers, one Naval officer, and four Air Force officers. This marks the first occasion that the Indian Armed Forces are jointly leading a circumnavigation mission, a remarkable milestone in India’s maritime endeavors and a shining representation of Nari Shakti in uniform.
According to the Indian Defence Ministry, the officers will navigate over 26,000 nautical miles, crossing the Equator twice and rounding the Three Great Capes – Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn, and the Cape of Good Hope. Their expedition will traverse all major oceans and some of the most perilous waters globally, including the Southern Ocean and the Drake Passage, testing human resilience against nature’s formidable challenges.
