In Tokyo on January 19 (NationPress), India's Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, engaged in discussions with Japan's Minister of Economic Security regarding various aspects of their bilateral relationship, including Economic Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cultural ties.

The Indian Embassy in Japan shared on X, "Ambassador-designate Nagma M Mallick met with Minister Onoda Kimi, addressing essential components of the India-Japan partnership, such as Economic Security, AI, and cultural connections."

Previously, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi co-chaired the 18th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi, where they explored areas like economic collaboration, maritime security, supply chains, critical minerals, technology, and multilateral cooperation.

EAM Jaishankar expressed on X, "I was pleased to co-chair the 18th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue with FM Toshimitsu Motegi today in New Delhi. Our Special Strategic and Global Partnership is progressing and is pivotal in shaping the global landscape and mitigating risks in the international economy."

He further noted, "The discussions today on enhancing economic, maritime, supply chain, critical mineral, technology, P2P, and multilateral cooperation reflect our shared goals and mutual understanding. We also exchanged valuable insights on Indo-Pacific and regional and global developments."

On January 16, Toshimitsu Motegi visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that Japan and India are "natural partners" sharing fundamental values and strategic interests. The meeting, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, lasted around 50 minutes.

During the meeting, Minister Motegi affirmed that Japan and India are 'natural partners' committed to a 'Free and Open Indo-Pacific' based on their robust bilateral relationship. Prime Minister Modi welcomed Motegi's visit and expressed a desire to enhance cooperation through the Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership, as stated by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral exchanges in 2027, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India.

In light of the 'Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade' unveiled during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan last year, the two leaders had an open dialogue on diverse topics, including security, economic security, investment, innovation, and people-to-people interactions, agreeing to elevate Japan-India relations further.
