New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) Underlining the strengthening ties between India and Japan, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar stated on Wednesday that the collaboration between these two nations significantly enhances strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific.
While speaking at the 8th India-Japan Indo-Pacific Forum, he remarked, "The depth of our partnership has increased remarkably in recent decades, making it more valuable than ever. This relationship not only boosts strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific but also contributes to global economic stability. Upholding a free and open Indo-Pacific is increasingly vital, yet more challenging. Our bilateral ties adapt to the evolving global landscape, as seen in our growing cooperation across various sectors."
The EAM expressed his congratulations to the think tanks, Delhi Policy Group and the Japan Institute of International Affairs, for facilitating the dialogue.
He highlighted the recent discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, emphasizing the significance both nations place on their relationship.
"Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan in August laid a strong foundation for our joint vision over the next decade. The eight priority pillars and the ambitious investment target of 10 trillion yen in the coming ten years provide clear metrics for our ambitions. The Joint Declaration on security cooperation is also significant in elevating our defense and security aspirations," the EAM emphasized.
"Moving forward, the India-Japan alliance should concentrate on harnessing our strengths, enhancing our supply chains, and investing in sectors like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, and space. As two prominent democracies and maritime nations, India and Japan bear a larger responsibility towards the Indo-Pacific. The Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, where Japan co-leads the maritime trade, transport, and connectivity pillar, can significantly advance our contributions," he added.
The EAM mentioned that during his discussions with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at the recent East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, both parties agreed on the necessity for an in-depth review to progress their partnership.
Reiterating the importance of the India-Japan partnership, S. Jaishankar stated, "Both countries have consistently gained from the insights provided by think tanks. I wish you all a fruitful discussion and eagerly await your ideas."
