Moscow, March 27 (NationPress) The bond between India and Russia is witnessing significant growth amid a shifting global order, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar remarked on Thursday during the international conference titled 'Russia and India: Towards a New Bilateral Agenda', organized by the Russian International Affairs Council in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
Speaking to attendees virtually, the EAM highlighted that enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership remains a key foreign policy goal for both nations.
"In the face of every shift and realignment, India and Russia have showcased an extraordinary capacity to adapt and uncover new opportunities for mutual benefit, contributing to regional and global stability and prosperity. Our diplomatic interactions are characterized by frequent high-level exchanges, robust institutional frameworks, and a dedication to each other's core interests," EAM Jaishankar stated.
During his address, which also featured remarks from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov via virtual means, the EAM noted that India-Russia relations are poised to grow further through enhanced skill and mobility partnerships and stronger connections between their peoples.
Highlighting the necessity for greater cooperation in an era of multipolarity, Jaishankar pointed out that India and Russia are adeptly navigating a complex geo–political landscape in today’s fast-evolving world.
"I want to reiterate that India places immense value on its relationship with Russia. We are committed to nurturing this deep friendship and seeking out new frontiers of collaboration," he asserted.
He emphasized that while sectors such as energy, defense, and civil nuclear cooperation have historically been pivotal, areas like trade, technology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, connectivity, and the digital economy are emerging as significant new points of collaboration.
Regarding economic relations, EAM Jaishankar mentioned that investments from both nations in each other’s economies are on the rise, with India and Russia aiming to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030.
He further noted that participation in multilateral forums such as BRICS, SCO, and G20, along with cooperation at the United Nations and other international platforms, highlights the comprehensive nature of collaboration between the two countries.
"India and Russia also share profound cultural and people-to-people ties. Russian scholars and intellectuals have long been intrigued by India's spiritual and philosophical traditions. Meanwhile, Indian students, artists, and filmmakers have drawn inspiration from Russia's literary and artistic legacies," the EAM concluded.
