Top Earners in the US: Indian Americans Lead Among Ethnic Groups
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) Households of Indian-Americans reported an impressive median annual income of $151,200, significantly surpassing the national median of approximately $83,700, placing them at the top among major ethnic groups in the United States, according to a recent report.
The analysis from The Australia Today, referencing findings from the Pew Research Center, indicated that Indian-American households earn about $67,000 more annually—nearly 80 percent higher than the average American household.
With a population of around 4.8 million, Indian Americans constitute a small segment, making up only 1.4 percent of the US population. Nevertheless, their economic impact is substantial, particularly due to their high engagement in professional, technical, and specialized sectors, as noted in the report.
"Even when compared to other high-earning Asian communities, Indian Americans hold a significant advantage," the report stated.
Following them, Taiwanese-American households rank second with a median income of about $133,300, which means that Indian-American households earn approximately $17,900 more, or around 13-14 percent higher. The combined median income for all Asian-American households is estimated at $105,600, still falling short of the typical Indian-American household income.
The elevated earnings of Indian Americans also contribute significantly to federal tax revenue, as these households collectively account for about 6 percent of all taxes paid, reflecting their concentration in high-income brackets and robust professional involvement, the report highlighted.
Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, recently acknowledged that individuals of Indian descent, particularly engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs, have made and continue to make essential contributions across various industries in the United States.
Addressing concerns regarding immigrant job competition, Musk stated that his companies face challenges in finding highly skilled personnel and that global talent plays a crucial role in filling that gap.
This month, the government announced ongoing discussions between India and the United States aimed at establishing a mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement.
