How is the Indian delegation in Indonesia promoting Gandhi's message of non-violence?

Jakarta, May 30 (NationPress) The Indian all-party Parliamentary delegation, spearheaded by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, on Friday nurtured the environment by planting tree saplings at a school in Jakarta. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' campaign, which not only celebrates mothers' vital role in nurturing lives but also enhances the planet's well-being.

The delegation honored Mahatma Gandhi with floral tributes at his statue, with Jha drawing strength from the steadfast bravery of freedom fighters while reiterating messages of peace, truth, and justice, especially amid external threats to India's sovereignty and security.

While engaging with members of Gandhi Seva Loka in Jakarta, the delegation expressed India's collective commitment to combating terrorism in all its manifestations and acknowledged the support of the Indian community.

Established by the Sindhi community, Gandhi Seva Loka is one of Indonesia's oldest philanthropic organizations, deeply rooted in Gandhian principles.

Later, the delegation had an interactive session with the Indian diaspora, addressing queries regarding Operation Sindoor. They stressed the importance of advocating for India's unified response and responsible action as a global leader, labeled 'Vishwa Guru'.

“The bipartisan delegation praised the Indian diaspora for upholding India’s cultural heritage and principles of tolerance, pluralism, and unity, while standing firm against terrorism. They also highlighted the diaspora's achievements abroad as true ambassadors of India,” the Embassy of India in Indonesia shared on X.

The delegation includes BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member John Barittas, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, and former Indian Ambassador to France, Mohan Kumar.

“I am thrilled to see that a memorial school, Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School, has been established in Indonesia in memory of Gandhiji. We also planted a sapling here under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative launched by Prime Minister Modi, which has seen millions of saplings planted in India,” Brij Lal remarked in an exclusive conversation with IANS.

Meanwhile, Jha expressed his appreciation for the Indian community's unwavering support on social media, underscoring that Mahatma Gandhi's eternal ideals of truth, non-violence, and justice continue to inspire India.

“Paid heartfelt tribute to Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School in Jakarta, alongside members of our Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation. Bapu’s timeless ideals of truth, non-violence, and justice continue to inspire India, especially against external threats to our sovereignty and security,” Jha posted on X.

“We also interacted with members of Gandhi Seva Loka, a respected diaspora organization rooted in Gandhian values, reaffirming India’s united commitment to combating terrorism. I am grateful for the Indian community’s steadfast support and planted tree saplings on the school premises — a modest gesture to honor Gandhiji’s enduring message of peace and sustainable living,” he added.

Earlier, the delegation met with KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), and Kholili Kholil, Committee Member of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Indonesia, the world’s largest Islamic organization, seeking their unwavering support against violence and religious extremism.

Condemning the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the loss of 26 innocent lives, KH Ulil expressed his empathy for India and called for collaboration between India and Indonesia to foster peace and economic growth.

Following successful engagements in Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, the Indian delegation is now in Indonesia to underscore the importance of Operation Sindoor and India's ongoing battle against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism to Indonesian leaders.
