Tehran, March 8 (NationPress) Iran has dismissed the statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron, claiming that Russia has utilized Iranian military assets in the Ukraine conflict.
The consistent repetition of such unfounded and inaccurate allegations by French officials demonstrates a lack of responsibility and reveals their insincerity in seeking peace and stability in both Europe and globally, remarked Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei in a statement.
Baghaei underscored that Iran is not a participant in the Ukraine conflict and maintains its steadfast position against war, advocating for the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomatic negotiations, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
During an address to his citizens on Wednesday, Macron stated, “Russia has already escalated the Ukraine conflict into a global issue,” asserting that it has employed Iranian equipment.
Ukraine, alongside various Western nations, has also accused Iran of providing arms to Russia for the current conflict; however, Iran has continually labeled these claims as baseless.
On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov remarked that Russia would interpret the possible deployment of European troops to Ukraine as direct NATO involvement in the conflict.
Lavrov characterized this potential action as a “direct, official, and overt involvement of NATO countries in a conflict against the Russian Federation” and cautioned that the presence of such forces in Ukraine would be intolerable to Moscow.
These comments followed Macron's announcement on Wednesday that he would contemplate sending European troops to Ukraine to enforce a peace agreement, although he clarified that these troops would not engage in frontline combat.
“This poses a threat to Russia,” Lavrov stated, adding that Moscow perceives “no possibility for compromise” regarding the deployment of European forces to Ukraine.
“This discourse is being conducted with an explicitly hostile aim,” he remarked.
The foreign minister also suggested that halting US military assistance to Ukraine could expedite the resolution of the conflict.
