Tehran, July 7 (NationPress) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday expressed his appreciation to the BRICS bloc for their condemnation of the recent "Israeli and US military strikes" on his country during the ongoing 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
"Iran is thankful for the firm and clear denunciation by BRICS regarding the recent military aggression from Israel and the United States. The intentional assaults on Iranian civilian infrastructure and nuclear facilities, which are under the protection of IAEA safeguards, breach both international law and established norms, as the influential coalition of nations has concurred," posted the Iranian Foreign Minister on X.
"At the BRICS Summit in Rio, where representatives from nations accounting for 40 percent of the global GDP and nearly half of the world’s population have convened, the significant economic and political transformations our planet is experiencing have never been more evident. Iran is pleased and honored to be part of the onset of a new era," the post further elaborated.
These comments followed the adoption of the 'Rio de Janeiro Declaration' during the summit's first day, which condemned the recent military actions against Iran without directly naming the United States and Israel.
"We denounce the military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 13, 2025, as violations of international law and the United Nations Charter, and express grave concern regarding the escalating security situation in the Middle East. We also voice serious concern over targeted assaults on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities under the strict safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), contravening international law and relevant IAEA resolutions," the declaration stated.
"Nuclear safeguards, safety, and security must always be prioritized, even during armed conflicts, to shield people and the environment from danger. In this context, we reaffirm our support for diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing regional challenges. We urge the United Nations Security Council to take up this issue," it added.
Araghchi is present in Rio de Janeiro to participate in the BRICS Summit, where he intends to engage with his counterparts and other high-ranking officials from fellow BRICS member states.
"We arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS summit where FM Araghchi will also be meeting his counterparts and other high-level participants from BRICS' member states. The motto 'Inclusive and Sustainable Global South' should be pursued through enhanced cooperation among BRICS' member nations," stated the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei in a post on X.
