Tehran, April 5 (NationPress) Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed his Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Shahram Dabiri following his lavish journey to the South Pole during the Nowruz (Persian New Year) celebrations.
In a statement addressed to Dabiri, President Pezeshkian conveyed that after examining a report on Dabiri's trip, he had opted to relieve the Vice President of his duties, emphasizing the importance of government officials being role models, according to Iranian media reports.
Considering the numerous economic challenges confronting the populace, extravagant excursions by officials, even if funded by personal finances, are deemed "neither defensible nor justifiable and are at odds with the minimalist lifestyle anticipated from Iranian officials," he asserted.
"(Our) enduring camaraderie and your invaluable contributions at the Vice-Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs do not exempt you from prioritizing integrity, fairness, and the commitments made to the citizens," the President remarked.
Dabiri, who is a physician, football administrator, and former Chairman of the Tabriz city council, was appointed to his position in August of the previous year.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that President Pezeshkian's decision illustrates that "he has no allegiances to anyone, and his only standards are effectiveness, fairness, integrity, and the public good."
