New Delhi, Oct 19 (NationPress) The Ambassador of Israel to India, Reuven Azar, conveyed heartfelt greetings to the citizens of India in celebration of Diwali. He emphasized that Diwali represents the victory of light over darkness and the triumph of good over evil, describing it as a timeless and universal message of hope and renewal.

In a video message posted on the social media platform X, Azar expressed gratitude, especially this year, as the last living hostages have been reunited with their families, igniting a sense of togetherness.

In his video, the Israeli envoy stated, "On this auspicious occasion of Diwali, I convey my warmest wishes to all the people of India. Diwali signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, which is a timeless and universal message of hope and renewal. My family and I will cherish this moment together in Israel. We are particularly thankful this year as the remaining living hostages have finally returned to their families, allowing them to feel the spirit of unity. The shining lamps and vibrant lights resonate with me, reminding us that even in difficult times, hope and goodness will always prevail. Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali."

The Diwali celebrations kicked off with Dhanteras on Saturday, witnessing a surge in shopping across India, with total sales estimated to exceed Rs 1 lakh crore, marking one of the most robust festive seasons in recent years. Sales of gold and silver alone surpassed Rs 60,000 crore, while markets in Delhi recorded transactions exceeding Rs 10,000 crore due to increased demand for local products, according to CAIT.

On October 13, Israel announced that Hamas no longer holds any living Israeli hostages, as the final 13 were handed over to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) after being in captivity for over two years.

This marked the second group of hostages released on October 13. Previously, seven Israeli men returned home after more than 738 days of captivity with Hamas. This group included Gali and Ziv Berman, Matan Angrest, Alon Ohel, Omri Miran, Eitan Mor, and Guy Gilboa-Dallal. The Red Cross facilitated their transfer to the Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF stated in a post on X, "Returning to Their Borders. Seven returning hostages have met IDF and Shin Bet forces in the Gaza Strip, and they are en route to Israeli territory."

"IDF commanders and soldiers salute and embrace the returnees on their path back home," the military added.

"The IDF spokesperson urges the public to exercise responsibility and sensitivity, to respect the privacy of the returnees, and to adhere to official information. The IDF is ready to receive additional hostages who are anticipated to be transferred to the Red Cross soon," it noted.

Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis have gathered at the Nova site for special holiday prayer services, the same location where Hamas perpetrated a massacre and took hundreds hostage on October 7, 2023.
