Bhubaneswar, Oct 19 (NationPress) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday demonstrated its political prowess with a spectacular roadshow in Nuapada in anticipation of the forthcoming Assembly by-election set for November 11.
Approximately 15,000 supporters participated in the grand rally, transforming the town into a vibrant sea of green, as notable party leaders and former ministers marched alongside the party's candidate, Snehangini Chhuria.
In a heartfelt homage, leaders paid tribute to the late MLA and former minister Rajendra Dholakia, whose death in September 2025 resulted in the vacancy within the constituency.
Dholakia, a four-time MLA, was first elected as an independent in 2004 and later joined the BJD, serving Nuapada with distinction for over twenty years.
He also held the position of Minister of Planning and Convergence in the Odisha government, widely recognized for his grassroots engagement and developmental initiatives.
On Monday, Snehangini Chhuria will officially submit her nomination papers for the seat. The event is anticipated to draw thousands of party workers and senior BJD MLAs at the Nuapada District Collector's office, as the deadline for filing nominations approaches.
Notable figures including Debi Prasad Mishra, Pratap Jena, Pranab Prakash Das, Pramila Mallik, Tukuni Sahu, and other prominent BJD leaders were present, emphasizing party unity and strength. The rally not only honored Dholakia's legacy but also aimed to rally support for Chhuria, a two-time MLA from Attabira and former Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Cooperation, Handloom, and Textiles.
During the significant gathering, BJD leaders expressed optimism that Snehangini Chhuria would achieve victory, highlighting her administrative expertise and strong connection with the populace of western Odisha.
“The public stands with BJD, and we will uphold Dholakia's vision of progress,” declared one senior leader at the rally.
Meanwhile, the BJP has nominated Jay Dholakia, the son of the late MLA, while the Congress candidate is Ghasiram Majhi, an experienced tribal leader. Both parties officially submitted their nominations on Saturday, setting the stage for a triangular contest that is capturing statewide political attention.
The by-election in Nuapada has evolved into a prestige battle for all major parties, as the BJD aims to maintain its historical stronghold, the BJP seeks to broaden its influence, and the Congress aspires for a resurgence in western Odisha.
