Imphal, Oct 19 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, made a visit to Noney district on Sunday to examine the construction of the world’s tallest railway pier bridge over the Ijei River. This bridge is a crucial component of the 111-km Jiribam-Imphal railway project, which aims to link the state capital with the national railway system.
A representative from the Raj Bhavan mentioned that the Governor received updates from railway engineers regarding the ongoing railway line construction. The engineers conveyed that the bridge’s construction is approaching completion, with expectations for it to be finalized within the current financial year (2025-26).
Governor Bhalla commended the team for their hard work and urged them to persist in their efforts for the benefit of the state's residents. Earlier this month, he had also reviewed the progress of the Jiribam-Imphal railway project.
Officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reported that the ₹14,322 crore Jiribam-Imphal railway initiative has already surpassed 95 percent physical completion.
The project is anticipated to enhance tourism, stimulate industrial growth, create job opportunities, and aid in the overall socio-economic advancement of the state.
Upon completion of the Jiribam-Imphal line next year, the capital city of Imphal will be integrated into the Indian Railways network, establishing it as the fifth capital city in the Northeastern region to obtain a rail link, following Dispur, Agartala, Itanagar, and Aizawl.
Following this, the Governor convened a meeting at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where he received briefings from the DC, Superintendent of Police (SP), and other District Level Officers (DLOs). The Deputy Commissioner informed the Governor of the various developmental projects underway in the district.
