Jerusalem, July 22 (NationPress) The Israeli military reported that it successfully intercepted a missile fired from Yemen aimed at Israeli territory early Tuesday morning.
"An IAF (Israeli Air Force) operation intercepted a missile launched from Yemen," the military confirmed in an official statement.
This missile prompted air raid sirens to sound across central Israel.
As per local media reports, there were no immediate casualties or damage following the interception.
In recent months, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes on key targets in Yemen, as Houthi forces persist in launching missiles and drones at Israel, demonstrating their support for Palestinians in Gaza.
According to Xinhua news agency, most of these projectiles have either been intercepted or have not reached Israeli territory.
Earlier on Monday, the Houthi armed group from Yemen claimed it had executed five drone attacks aimed at various "military and vital" locations within Israel.
During a televised announcement on Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Sarea indicated that the targets included Ben Gurion Airport, a "military target" in Tel Aviv, Eilat Port, Ramon Airport, and a significant site in the Ashdod area.
He proclaimed, "The operation was successful," without providing any evidence, asserting that these attacks were in support of the Palestinians in Gaza and in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's Hodeidah port earlier that same day.
Sarea further pledged to continue the assaults on Israel until he deemed the "aggression on Gaza stops and the blockade on Palestinians is lifted."
No immediate responses were made by Israel regarding the alleged Houthi attacks.
The Israel Defense Forces stated that their strikes had successfully targeted and dismantled military infrastructure, including engineering tools used for rebuilding port facilities, fuel containers, vessels involved in hostile maritime operations, and other Houthi assets.
Residents reported that the strikes caused significant explosions, with fire and smoke visible from several miles away from the port, as conveyed to Xinhua via phone.
The Houthi armed group, which governs substantial parts of northern Yemen, including Hodeidah port and the capital Sanaa, has been carrying out attacks against Israeli targets since November 2023 to express solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
