Dhaka, July 22 (NationPress) A chaotic and riot-like atmosphere has engulfed Dhaka, particularly around the Milestone School and College campus—the scene of Monday's devastating plane crash that has tragically taken the lives of 31 individuals and left over 160 injured.
Intense protests are ongoing at the crash site and outside the Secretariat in the capital, with students demanding the immediate resignation of Education Advisor Muhammad Yunus and the Education Secretary.
Members of the interim government's law and education advisory team, including Yunus's Press Secretary, encountered significant unrest from students who insisted on their resignations, arguing that the government’s statements regarding the crash are misleading.
The demonstrators are calling for the release of an accurate list of the deceased and injured, along with compensation details for the victims' families.
Additionally, they are urging for an immediate halt to the use of outdated and unsafe training aircraft by the Bangladesh Air Force, as reported by Bangladesh's leading newspaper, the Daily Star.
Law Advisor Asif Nazrul, Education Advisor C R Abrar, and the Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam were confined to a room within the educational institution after facing protests from students.
The students demanded accountability from the advisors and insisted that their list of demands be addressed.
They also reported that teachers and guardians at the institution were allegedly attacked on Monday night.
In response to the protests, Yunus stated on Tuesday that all student demands would be carefully considered.
“An information center has been established at Milestone School. It includes details about the deceased and injured, along with updates on any missing individuals. Arrangements for compensation, rehabilitation, and trauma support for the families of victims are being made,” the Chief Advisor posted on X.
He also mentioned that appropriate measures will be taken regarding the allegations of student assault by army personnel.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media division of the Armed Forces of South Asia, the Bangladesh Air Force’s F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 1:06 PM local time on Monday and crashed into the Milestone School and College building in Uttara, Dhaka, around 1:30 PM. Most of the deceased were students, as announced by authorities on Tuesday.
