New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) A number of political figures expressed optimism on Friday regarding the recent phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. The discussion, which covered bilateral relations as well as regional and global matters, was deemed a favorable development.
In comments to IANS, BJP MP Shashank Mani Tripathi remarked, "Both nations share a friendly bond. While tariffs and other issues have caused some misunderstandings, reaching a favorable trade agreement would benefit all involved, bolstering our economy and helping to curb inflation. This is certainly a positive sign."
Another BJP MP, Rajkumar Chahar, emphasized, "Any decision that serves the interests of India and its 1.4 billion citizens is made by our elected Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Whether engaging in talks with Trump, Putin, or other leaders, PM Modi consistently prioritizes India's best interests."
MP Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena(UBT) stated, "It is promising to see the engagement between the US and India, two significant democracies, continue to grow. Finalizing a trade agreement is crucial. Although the tariffs imposed by the US are concerning, I am hopeful that ongoing discussions will yield solutions soon, leading to the swift implementation of the pending trade agreement."
TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu noted, "If we wish to discuss mutual respect, we must first uphold our self-respect and national aspirations. The US is eager to deepen its relationship with India due to our vast and expanding market. With a growth rate of 8.2 percent, as indicated by recent statistics, the US seeks access to this market, while India's service sector also supports American businesses. This scenario is advantageous for both nations, but it is crucial that this collaboration is equitable and does not allow one country to gain excessive benefits."
During their call, PM Modi and President Trump highlighted the necessity of maintaining momentum in their joint efforts to enhance bilateral trade.
"I had a very cordial and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and examined regional and global developments. India and the US will persist in collaborating for global peace, stability, and prosperity," PM Modi shared on X following the discussion.
The leaders assessed the progress of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and expressed contentment with the steady advancement of cooperation across multiple sectors.
They also exchanged insights on bolstering collaboration in critical technologies, energy, defense, and security, among other areas essential for the implementation of the India-US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st century.
In their conversation, the two leaders addressed various regional and global developments, agreeing to work closely to tackle shared challenges and further mutual interests.
