Did Kyiv Launch a Drone Attack on Russia's Presidential Residence in Novgorod?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Moscow, Dec 30 (NationPress) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Kyiv executed a drone strike targeting the presidential residence in Russia's northwestern Novgorod region overnight.
"During the night of December 28-29, the Kyiv regime initiated a terrorist attack using 91 long-range strike drones against the state residence of the President of the Russian Federation," Lavrov remarked on Monday.
He further noted that all incoming drones were intercepted by the air defense systems of the Russian Armed Forces, and no casualty reports or damages from drone debris were recorded, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Lavrov highlighted that this attack coincided with ongoing Russia-US negotiations aimed at addressing the crisis in Ukraine.
He cautioned that such reckless actions would not go unanswered and confirmed that the Russian Armed Forces had already pinpointed the targets for retaliatory strikes and established a timeline for their implementation.
Lavrov also reiterated that Moscow remains committed to the negotiation process with the United States.
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday refuted the claims of the attack, labeling it as "another lie from the Russian Federation."
Zelensky stated that such allegations are designed to rationalize Russian assaults on Ukraine, including strikes on the capital, as well as Russia's reluctance to take necessary actions to deescalate the crisis.
"They are merely laying the groundwork for potential strikes, likely targeting the capital and government buildings," he stated.
"This purported 'residence strike' narrative is a complete fabrication," Zelensky asserted.
He emphasized that Ukraine is not engaging in actions that could undermine diplomatic efforts, while Russia "always engages in such steps."
