Kyiv, July 4 (NationPress) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on Friday that Russia has executed one of the most extensive aerial assaults against Ukraine in recent history, targeting 550 locations, which includes a minimum of 330 Russian-Iranian 'Shahed' drones and ballistic missiles.
"Efforts to extinguish fires and clear debris are still in progress following another Russian onslaught. This was among the most extensive air assaults – intentionally large and ruthless. In total, 550 locations were attacked, featuring at least 330 Russian-Iranian 'Shahed' drones, in addition to ballistic missiles," Zelensky posted on X.
"The capital was the primary target of this Russian assault. Our defenders successfully intercepted 270 aerial threats, while another 208 drones were neutralized through electronic warfare. Interceptor drones have begun to operate – dozens of drones were destroyed. We are striving to enhance this defensive aspect for our urban areas. It's vital that our allies continue to assist us in countering ballistic missile threats," he added.
Zelensky noted that the Russian strike impacted not only Kyiv but also the Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, with 23 individuals reported injured thus far.
"Everyone is receiving support. Numerous locations were struck by drone and missile debris. Unfortunately, there were also direct hits," the Ukrainian leader mentioned.
According to Zelensky, the initial air raid alerts in Ukrainian cities and regions on Thursday began to sound almost simultaneously with media reports of a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that the air raid alerts in Kyiv only ceased on Friday morning.
"This serves as clear evidence that without substantial pressure, Russia will not alter its reckless, destructive actions. For every assault on innocent lives, they must face appropriate sanctions and other economic repercussions. This is essential to swiftly improve the situation, and it relies on our partners, especially the United States," he further stated.
In the meantime, US President Trump expressed his frustration regarding the situation in Ukraine, indicating that no progress is being made towards resolving the conflict following his call with President Putin.
"We discussed various topics, including Iran, and also addressed the war in Ukraine. I am not satisfied with that [situation]," Trump remarked to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, near Washington.
"I didn't achieve any progress with him whatsoever," he emphasized, referring to the resolution of the conflict.
The Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov mentioned that the telephone conversation on Thursday between Putin and Trump lasted nearly an hour.
"Naturally, the issues regarding Ukraine were discussed. Donald Trump once again raised the importance of ceasing hostilities as soon as possible. In response, Vladimir Putin highlighted that we are still seeking a political, negotiated resolution to the conflict. He informed his counterpart about the advancements made in implementing humanitarian agreements reached during the second round of direct Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul. He also noted Russia's willingness to pursue negotiations," stated a release from the Russian President's office.
"Additionally, the President of Russia conveyed that Russia will strive to achieve its objectives, namely addressing the well-known root causes that have led to the current situation and the severe confrontation we witness today. Russia intends to remain steadfast in these goals," the statement concluded.
