Moscow, Dec 31 (NationPress) The Ukrainian armed forces executed a drone strike targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence in the Novgorod region, as reported by Major General Alexander Romanenkov, Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces' Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops, on Wednesday.

According to Romanenkov, an air assault utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles was detected around 7:20 p.m. on December 28, originating from the Sumy and Chernihiv regions of Ukraine, as quoted by the Russian media outlet Izvestia.

This Ukrainian operation was described as strategically focused and carefully orchestrated. Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed that all Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) directed at the presidential estate were neutralized by their air defence systems.

To counter the Ukrainian military's endeavors, Russia deployed Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs) and Electronic Warfare (EW) mechanisms over the Bryansk, Smolensk, and Novgorod regions. Between December 28-29, a total of 41 drones were intercepted over Novgorod, while 49 were downed over the Bryansk region.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that Russia's position in ongoing negotiations with Ukraine would become more stringent following the attack on Putin's residence, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Peskov remarked to reporters that the diplomatic repercussions of this aggression would lead to a tougher negotiating stance from Russia. He indicated that the Ukrainian assault aimed to derail the discussions aimed at resolving the conflict, from which Russia is steadfastly not withdrawing, and affirmed that Russia intends to continue dialogues, primarily with the US.

On December 29, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of executing UAV strikes against Putin's state residence in the early hours. He asserted that Russia would retaliate against Ukraine's actions, as reported by Russia's news agency Tass.

Lavrov further declared that on the night of December 28-29, the 'Kyiv regime' initiated a terrorist operation involving 91 long-range strike unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the Russian President's estate in Novgorod Region. He confirmed that all drones were neutralized by Russian air defences, with no casualties or damages reported, occurring amidst heated negotiations over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Russia's allegations of the attack, labeling them as yet another falsehood from the Russian Federation.
