Lebanon Deploys Forces to Southern Border for Ceasefire Enforcement

Beirut, Dec 11 (NationPress) Lebanon is in the process of deploying its military forces to the southern region of the country to facilitate the implementation of the ceasefire with Israel, according to Lebanese military sources.

The sources, who requested anonymity, indicated that approximately 6,000 soldiers along with numerous armored military vehicles have been mobilized, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

These troops are currently assembling in an initial phase across various military barracks situated south of the Litani River, covering areas including Marjeyoun, Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, Tyre, and Zahrani.

Eyewitnesses in Nabatieh reported to Xinhua that they observed a convoy of the Lebanese army comprising over 50 jeeps and armored vehicles making its way towards the southern border on Tuesday afternoon.

In the town of Qalaa, located in eastern southern Lebanon, several locals informed Xinhua of a grand reception held on Tuesday afternoon for a Lebanese army unit consisting of around 30 armored vehicles en route to barracks in Marjeyoun, which is adjacent to the southeastern border.

The ceasefire, facilitated by the United States and France, came into effect on November 27, aiming to cease nearly 14 months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

This agreement outlines a 60-day halt to hostilities, with the Lebanese army set to assume control over the southern border area following a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops and the clearance of militants.
