Canberra, March 25 (NationPress) A recent poll indicates that only 26 percent of Australians express support for the military actions taken by the US and Israel against Iran, while a significant 50 percent would reject the idea of deploying Australian troops. According to the latest edition of The Essential Report, a monthly survey conducted by the independent firm Essential Research, just 10 percent strongly endorse and 16 percent approve of the strikes on Iran, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
In contrast, 27 percent of respondents indicated strong disapproval, with an additional 15 percent opposing the actions, leaving the rest either neutral or uncertain about their stance.
When asked about Australia's role in the ongoing conflict, 50 percent of poll participants voiced opposition to sending troops to aid US-Israeli ground operations in Iran, while only 21 percent expressed support for such a move.
Additionally, respondents showed a greater tendency to oppose rather than support Australia's provision of weapons and equipment to third-party nations affected by Iranian retaliatory actions, such as the United Arab Emirates.
A notable 60 percent of those surveyed favored Australia collaborating with international organizations to facilitate peace talks and mitigate further escalation.
In terms of diplomatic and trade relations, 34 percent of participants believe Australia should reduce its cooperation with the United States, an increase from 14 percent in 2021.
The poll, which included 1,008 respondents last week, revealed that 43 percent disapproved of the US and Israeli military action against Iran, while only 26 percent supported it. Around 31 percent remained uncertain or chose not to answer.
