Lula of Brazil Announces Plans for Reelection in 2026

Brasilia, Dec 12 (NationPress) The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, is set to pursue reelection in 2026, as confirmed by Paulo Pimenta, the Secretary of Social Communication for the presidency.

In a discussion with CNN Brasil, Pimenta reassured the public that the president is in good health following medical treatments for a brain bleed, stating he is "the most qualified and prepared person" to continue leading the nation.

Lula underwent urgent surgery on Tuesday to remove a hematoma from his head, followed by an embolization procedure on Thursday to avert future complications. His medical team has indicated that the president is expected to have no lasting effects and will likely be discharged early next week, either on Monday or Tuesday.

"President Lula is doing very well. This is a simple procedure. President Lula is someone who takes care of himself and has consistently shown discipline. He understands Brazil and is exceptionally prepared," Pimenta remarked.

"I am certain that President Lula is the most qualified and capable candidate. He will undoubtedly be our representative in 2026 to continue our agenda," he emphasized, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

On his social media account, Pimenta celebrated a recent Genial/Quaest poll released on Thursday, which indicates Lula holds a substantial advantage over all potential challengers in the upcoming elections.

"The Brazilian populace recognizes that life has improved and will continue to enhance under President Lula," the minister shared online.

During the televised interview, Pimenta also condemned certain opposition factions for propagating false information regarding the president's health.

There were some reports suggesting that the Brazilian President would undergo an additional medical procedure to supplement the surgery conducted on Tuesday to drain an intracranial hematoma.

"As part of the therapeutic regimen, the surgery will be followed by an endovascular procedure tomorrow morning," claimed reports citing the Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo, where the president is receiving treatment.

The non-surgical approach, referred to as middle meningeal artery embolization, aims to lower the chances of hematoma recurrence.

Lula, aged 79, underwent emergency surgery early Tuesday morning due to an intracranial hematoma resulting from a blow to the back of his head sustained on October 19 while at his presidential residence.

One of Lula's physicians stated on Tuesday that the president is anticipated to be discharged next week.
