Kabul, Aug 3 (NationPress) A drug trafficker has been apprehended, with 75 kg of opium poppy confiscated in the northern Afghan province of Takhar, as reported by provincial police spokesperson Nizamudin Omir on Sunday.
The suspect, as per official sources, was caught attempting to sell the opium poppy, prompting police to intervene and take him into custody for further investigation, according to Xinhua News Agency.
In a related crackdown on illegal narcotics, authorities also detained three additional drug smugglers and uncovered six kg of hashish in their possession in eastern Khost province, police confirmed.
Furthermore, a statement released late Saturday by the office of the Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics revealed that 400 individuals battling drug addiction have successfully completed their rehabilitation and reunited with their families in Herat province, located in western Afghanistan.
The recovered addicts, who were sourced from various districts within the province, underwent a rigorous three-month medical and rehabilitation program prior to their reintegration, the statement elaborated.
Earlier this week, another 516 former drug users from Herat and the nearby Nimroz provinces also finished their rehabilitation and returned to their families.
As part of ongoing measures to address drug addiction, Afghan police recently apprehended 125 drug users across the provinces of Farah, Balkh, Ghazni, Sari Pul, and Samangan. These individuals have been directed to rehabilitation centers for necessary medical care and support.

On July 27, the Ministry of Interior Affairs reported that Afghan counter-narcotics police seized 57 kg of opium and arrested a suspected drug smuggler in Badakhshan province.
