Kuala Lumpur, June 27 (NationPress) The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) reported on Friday the apprehension of 36 Bangladeshi nationals due to their participation in a radical movement that aims to propagate extremist ideologies associated with the Islamic State (IS) in Malaysia.
As per the statements from Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs, the operation targeting these individuals commenced on April 24 and unfolded in three distinct phases across the states of Selangor and Johor.
"During this operation, five of the arrested were identified as offenders under Chapter VIA of the Penal Code and have already faced charges in the Shah Alam and Johor Bahru Section Courts. Additionally, 15 individuals have received deportation orders, while 16 others are under further investigation regarding their roles in this militant movement," the Home Ministry's statement indicated.
"Thanks to intelligence and coordinated efforts by the Special Branch Team, PDRM discovered that this group was attempting to introduce extremist views linked to the Islamic State (IS) into Malaysia. They even set up recruitment cells within their communities aimed at indoctrinating radical beliefs, raising funds for terrorist activities, and attempting to undermine the legitimate government in their homeland," the statement elaborated.
Malaysia's Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stressed that the nation will not serve as a haven or battleground for any foreign extremist factions.
"This operation underscores the commitment of the Madani Government to not tolerate any threats to national security. It also showcases the effectiveness and professionalism of our national security forces, particularly the PDRM, in upholding sovereignty, harmony, and public order," stated the Home Minister.
Saifuddin Nasution reiterated that the Ministry of Home Affairs will enhance intelligence capabilities and intensify enforcement while collaborating with both local and international security agencies to ensure that Malaysia remains peaceful, stable, and free from terrorism threats.
