Bengaluru, Nov 21 (NationPress) - H.D. Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and current Rajya Sabha member, has been re-elected as the National President of the JD (S) by unanimous consent, while Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has also been re-elected as the President of the party's Karnataka unit during the National Council meeting held at the party's state headquarters, JP Bhavan in Bengaluru on Friday.
The national representatives reached a mutual agreement to re-elect both leaders.
“There are significant opportunities to enhance the party's structure at the national level, and we also need to bolster the party's presence in Karnataka. In this context, the National Council has resolved that the party will be organized under the leadership of Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy,” an official statement revealed.
Delegates from various states, including Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, attended the meeting.
All JD(S) MLAs from the state, Members of the Legislative Council, district presidents of the party, and other leaders were also involved in the National Council meeting.
JD (S) Legislature Party leader C.B. Suresh Babu stated, “JD (S) is the only regional party in the state, celebrating 25 years of existence. The unwavering efforts of Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy have kept the party robust. Deve Gowda has dedicated his life to nurturing the party. At this crucial moment, the National Council has determined that these two capable leaders should continue at the helm.”
The JD (S) National Council meeting also passed resolutions supporting farmers and strengthening the party's organization, which will be ratified at the National Executive meeting scheduled for Saturday, according to Suresh Babu.
During the party’s National Council meeting, Deve Gowda emphasized that the party has been built by overcoming numerous challenges and will persist in facing such obstacles while fortifying the organization. “There should be no doubt about this,” he asserted.
He remarked, “Many leaders, including the current Chief Minister of Karnataka (Siddaramaiah), have departed from our party. They advanced their political careers through our party, gained strength, and then left. Nonetheless, we have continued to build and expand the party despite substantial challenges,” Deve Gowda expressed.
He highlighted that the party has endured several splits at both state and national levels. “Our party has a solid foundation in Karnataka and several other states. We can develop it into a formidable organization. Without any hesitation or fear, we will continue to strengthen the party,” he pledged.
“We have shared power with various parties over the years. Kumaraswamy has collaborated with both the BJP and Congress and has governed Karnataka. He has served as Chief Minister twice and during his tenure, implemented several beneficial programs, including farm loan waivers.
“Kumaraswamy possesses extensive administrative experience. Currently, he serves as a Union minister in Prime Minister Modi’s government, where he is performing exceptionally well,” Deve Gowda stated.
On this occasion, Kumaraswamy remarked that only Deve Gowda understands the sacrifices he made to establish the party, and these sacrifices should never be underestimated. He stressed that it was Deve Gowda who effectively organized anti-Congress politics in the state.
“The people recognize the contributions Deve Gowda has made to this state and the nation. No one can erase the legacy of the many leaders he has nurtured and the communities he has empowered,” he added.
“A person who began their political journey in this party, who served as Deputy Chief Minister twice, jumped to another party and claimed in Kolar that someone else was responsible for his political ascent. Yesterday in Chamarajanagar, the same individual stated that had he remained in the JD (S), he would not have become Chief Minister. Who appointed him as Deputy Chief Minister twice in our party? If we had not made him DCM, the Congress would not have even considered him,” the Union Minister commented critically, directing his remarks towards CM Siddaramaiah.
