Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (NationPress) In a significant turn of events, the son of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president and Bhawanipatna (Sadar) MLA Sagar Charan Das has requested urgent action against individuals reportedly threatening his life through a close associate, Devanand Joshi from Deypur village in Kalahandi district.
In a letter addressed to Odisha's Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, MLA Das recounted an alarming incident from Thursday evening. A group of four to five unidentified individuals confronted Joshi, coercively demanding information regarding Das's whereabouts. These assailants allegedly threatened Joshi with severe repercussions if he did not comply and disclose the location of the Congress MLA.
Das further asserted that the assailants issued death threats against him via Joshi. Witnesses indicated that the suspects were armed with firearms and other weapons.
Describing the situation as a serious threat to his wellbeing, Das expressed, “As a public representative, this poses a significant concern where my safety and right to life are being jeopardized by unlawful entities. If associates of mine are threatened so openly, it creates an atmosphere of fear for everyone.”
The MLA's letter urged Khurania to promptly acknowledge the incident, file an FIR, and initiate an investigation. He mentioned being out of town for prior engagements but pledged full cooperation with authorities upon his return to Bhawanipatna.

In a post on his X account, PCC president Bhakta Charan remarked, “Some armed miscreants brazenly threatened our Zone President outside his residence, demanding the location and personal details of MLA Sagar Charan Das. They even instructed him to relay that they intend to target Sagar's life. Why is such Jungleraj allowed to persist in our state, CM @MohanMOdisha?”
Simultaneously, the opposition Congress party raised concerns on Friday regarding the declining law and order situation in Odisha under the BJP-led administration. “The fact that a prominent and rising MLA has received death threats highlights that it is not Mohan’s government, but the rule of criminals that prevails.
