Bhubaneswar, Dec 14 (NationPress) A number of individuals suffered serious injuries during a political altercation at Panturi, situated within the Jenapur police jurisdiction in the Dharmasala region of Jajpur district in Odisha on Sunday.
The incident erupted at the farmhouse of former Dharmasala MLA and prominent BJD figure Pranab Kumar Balabantaray on Sunday afternoon.
Reports indicate that the confrontation occurred between Balabantaray's supporters and those of the current Dharmasala MLA.
In statements to the press, Balabantaray claimed that the backers of the Independent Dharmasala MLA launched the assault while approximately 30 to 40 of his supporters were enjoying a feast at his residence.
Additionally, more than a dozen vehicles, including motorcycles and cars parked at the farmhouse, suffered damage during the skirmish between the rival factions.
"While BJD members were having lunch post a meeting, supporters of the Dharmasala MLA unexpectedly invaded my property, assaulted guests, and wreaked havoc, damaging homes and vehicles. They even destroyed mobile devices belonging to those who were documenting the chaos. More than 20 vehicles were impacted. Four individuals with serious injuries have been sent to Cuttack, while over 20 others are currently receiving care at the local Community Health Centre," Balabantaray stated.
He also pointed out that ongoing police negligence has resulted in a surge of violence and disorder in the Dharmasala area.
Two separate cases have been filed based on complaints from opposing groups.
Local law enforcement officials have confirmed that an investigation into the event is underway.
However, no arrests have been made as of yet.
In the meantime, several BJD leaders, including Balabantaray and his supporters, have organized a sit-in protest in front of the DGP Camp office in Bhubaneswar, demanding prompt and severe action against those responsible for the violence.
Earlier this April, Balabantaray was reportedly assaulted by a group believed to be supporters of Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo.
Although his vehicle was damaged during that incident, Balabantaray managed to escape unharmed.
