Malta Schools Disrupted by Email Bomb Threat

Valletta, Dec 3 (NationPress) Over 100 educational institutions in Malta were disrupted after they received an email claiming that there were explosive devices in their building.

Although it appeared to be a coordinated attack, no risks were taken, and students were evacuated until authorities provided the all-clear for them to return and resume classes on Monday.

Government sources informed Xinhua news agency that all schools received the same email, indicating a coordinated attack.

The email, dispatched early on Monday morning, warned educational facilities that “explosive devices are located in your building”. Initially, authorities considered closing all schools for the day but opted against it based on the advice from bomb disposal experts. The police's cybercrime unit is currently investigating the email and its origins.

In a joint statement, the Education and Home Affairs Ministry remarked that the emailed threat was “not specific” and that an investigation into the issue is ongoing.

Preliminary findings suggest that the emails originated from a foreign IP address, according to reports from Maltese media.
