In response to their enthusiasm, PM Modi waved back at the enthusiastic crowd that assembled to greet him during the inauguration of the newly constructed Ministry of Defence building in Male, alongside Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

In a post on X, PM Modi expressed, "President Muizzu and I inaugurated a new building of the Ministry of Defence in Malé. This is yet another instance of strong India-Maldives cooperation."
During the event, PM Modi and Muizzu also launched a commemorative stamp celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. PM Modi remarked that the relationship between the nations is growing stronger over time.
"Commemorating a cherished friendship! President Muizzu and I released a stamp to honor 60 years of India-Maldives friendship. Our ties are becoming increasingly robust and are benefiting the people of both our nations," PM Modi shared on X.
Previously, PM Modi stated that New Delhi takes great pride in being Male's "most trusted friend" and that India has consistently supported Maldives as a first responder in times of crisis. He congratulated the citizens of the Indian Ocean nation on the 60th anniversary of its independence and expressed gratitude to Muizzu for inviting him as the 'Guest of Honour' on this significant occasion.
In a joint statement to the press with the Maldives President post their meeting, PM Modi noted, "This year, India and Maldives are celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations. However, the roots of our relationship are older than history and as deep as the sea. The commemorative stamps unveiled today feature traditional boats from both nations, symbolizing that we are not only neighbors but also co-passengers on this journey."

India is proud to be the most trusted friend of Maldives, whether in times of natural disaster or a pandemic. PM Modi highlighted that the growing collaboration between the two nations in defense and security serves as a testament to their mutual trust. He also discussed the significance of the newly inaugurated Defence Ministry Building, which features a large portrait of PM Modi.
"The increasing cooperation in defense and security signifies our mutual trust. The Defence Ministry building inaugurated today stands as a concrete representation of our strong partnership," he stated.
PM Modi announced that India would extend a Line of Credit (LoC) of USD 565 million to the Indian Ocean archipelago. He mentioned that both nations have taken significant steps to enhance their economic partnership. He stated that India and Maldives will bolster regional maritime cooperation through the Colombo Security Conclave and termed climate change as a major challenge for both countries.
"Peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region are shared objectives. Together, through the Colombo Security Conclave, we will enhance regional maritime security. Climate change poses a significant challenge for both our nations. We have committed to promoting renewable energy, and in this domain, India will share its expertise with the Maldives," he concluded.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome and guard of honor at Republic Square in Male as he embarked on his official engagements during a two-day state visit.
In a special gesture, President Muizzu greeted PM Modi at the airport in Male upon his arrival from the United Kingdom. Maldives' Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, Finance Minister, and Minister of Homeland Security were also present at the airport to welcome PM Modi.
