Kampala, Oct 15 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh represented India at the inauguration of the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) taking place in Uganda on Wednesday.
Singh shared on X, "I participated in the opening ceremony of the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) hosted by Uganda, which revolves around the theme of 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence'."
During the 19th NAM Ministerial meeting, Singh engaged in discussions with Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop regarding their bilateral relations.
Following their conversation, Singh tweeted, "I was glad to meet HE Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Mali, on the sidelines of the 19th NAM Midterm Ministerial meeting. We discussed our multifaceted bilateral relations."
Additionally, Singh met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar, where they explored opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Post their meeting, Singh remarked on X, "I was pleased to meet HE Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia. We focused on strengthening our historical bilateral cooperation, especially in enhancing people-to-people ties."
Earlier that day, Singh arrived in Uganda to head the Indian delegation for the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial of NAM, scheduled for October 15-16.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced, "Uganda will chair NAM for the term 2024-26. This Mid-Term Ministerial is centered around the theme of 'Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence'. India, as a founding member, remains devoted to the principles and values of this movement that unites 121 developing nations on a historically significant platform."
On Monday, India also participated in the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala, showcasing support for Uganda's leadership of the NAM.
Secretary (West) Sibi George led the Indian delegation during the SOM, which was overseen by Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Odongo Jeje.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, "Secretary (West) Sibi George leads the Indian delegation at the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala, Uganda; overseen by FM General Odongo Jeje of Uganda. India stands behind Uganda’s leadership of the NAM."
