The proposal was presented by the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India.
This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing efforts to foster a sports culture in India, particularly through programs like Khelo India. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel have also been crucial in enhancing India’s sports infrastructure and capabilities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his congratulations to the nation, crediting this achievement to Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership. “India has secured this honor by establishing world-class sports facilities and cultivating athletes prepared to compete on a global scale,” he remarked.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel referred to this moment as “a genuinely proud occasion for Gujarat and India,” commending the Prime Minister for his efforts in obtaining the recommendation.
The President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, P.T. Usha, stated, “The Centenary Commonwealth Games in Amdavad will be Games for the Future: rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.”

In agreement, Gujarat’s Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi said, “Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Amdavad transcends merely conducting a global sporting event—it is about presenting a new India: confident, capable, inclusive, and progressive.”
The proposal for the Games has been applauded for its adherence to the Commonwealth Sport’s ‘Games Reset’ principles, focusing on affordability, inclusivity, sustainability, and legacy.
