Could India Host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad?

London, Aug 29 (NationPress) Following the approval from the Union Cabinet, an Indian delegation, which included members from the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Government of Gujarat, presented an official proposal to Commonwealth Sport in London to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India. The delegation was spearheaded by Harsh Sanghavi, the Minister of Sports for the Government of Gujarat.

This bid positions Ahmedabad as the host city for the centenary edition of the Games, celebrating 100 years of the Commonwealth Games. The proposal showcases India’s dedication to organizing a sustainable, inclusive, and principled Games in accordance with the Commonwealth Games Reset.

Minister Sanghavi emphasized that the 2030 Commonwealth Games would hold great importance not only for India but for the entire Commonwealth. This event will commemorate a century of sporting excellence, unity, and shared ideals within the Commonwealth, making the centenary edition truly historic.

He also mentioned that India's approach will be rooted in the ancient philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which means 'the world is one family,' promoting unity and human connection. Atithi Devo Bhava, or 'the guest is divine,' will serve as a guiding principle for engaging all stakeholders visiting India for the Games.

Dr. PT Usha, President of both the Indian Olympic Association and the Commonwealth Games Association (India), stated: “This bid is a reflection of a nation's aspirations. The Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will not only highlight India’s sporting prowess but also the values of friendship, respect, and inclusivity that characterize our sporting culture. If approved, the Commonwealth Games would return to India after two decades. New Delhi previously hosted the country’s first Commonwealth Games in 2010, which was the second edition held in Asia after Kuala Lumpur in 1998. The New Delhi games marked India’s best performance in CWG history, with over 100 medals, ranking second after Australia.
