London, Sep 23 (NationPress) India has made significant progress in its ambition to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games by officially submitting its proposal to the Evaluation Committee of Commonwealth Sport on Tuesday. The proposal was delivered by a team of Indian officials, which included members from both the Indian Olympic Association and representatives from the central and state governments.
Leading this delegation was Harsh Sanghavi, the Minister of Sports for the Government of Gujarat, along with PT Usha, the president of the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) India.
Included in the team were Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary of Sports in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS); Ashwini Kumar, Principal Secretary for Sports in Gujarat; Banchha Nidhi Pani, Commissioner of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation; Raghuram Iyer, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Association of India; Lt Gen Harpal Singh, an Executive Board Member of CGA India; and Ajay Narang, Executive Assistant to the CGA President.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games holds historical importance, marking a century of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. India’s proposal positions Ahmedabad as the host city for this centenary event, promising a compact Games experience centered around world-class venues, efficient transport systems, and top-notch accommodations, as outlined in a release from CGA India.
In line with the Games Reset principles, the proposal prioritizes affordability, inclusivity, adaptability, and sustainability. It aims to integrate para-sport, safeguard human rights, promote gender equity, and establish a long-lasting legacy framework that benefits not just athletes but also the communities and the broader Commonwealth.
Ahmedabad’s track record in hosting major events strengthens India’s candidacy, having successfully managed prestigious events like the ICC Cricket World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the 2022 National Games. The city is also set to host the Asian Aquatics in 2025, the Asian Weightlifting Championships in 2026, the World Police and Fire Games in 2029, along with various other multi-sport and single-sport events, enhancing its operational experience ahead of 2030.
Harsh Sanghavi remarked, “Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games would be a proud achievement for Gujarat and India. We envision these Games as a catalyst—to motivate our youth, expedite our path towards Viksit Bharat 2047, and fortify the Commonwealth Movement for the next century.”
PT Usha added, “India’s bid encompasses not only capability but also core values. Amdavad is prepared to take the baton from Glasgow 2026 and serve as a launchpad for the 2034 Games, ensuring that the centenary edition respects the past while shaping the future of Commonwealth Sport.”
With strong and coordinated backing from the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India, the proposal underscores India’s aspiration to host Games that are compact, sustainable, inclusive, and impactful on a global scale.
