Has India Proposed to Host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad?

London, Aug 29 (NationPress) Following the approval from the Union Cabinet, an Indian team representing the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Government of Gujarat has submitted an official proposal to Commonwealth Sport in London to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India. The delegation was spearheaded by Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of Sports for the Government of Gujarat.

This bid positions Ahmedabad as the selected host city for the centenary edition of the Games, celebrating 100 years of the Commonwealth Games. The proposal underscores India’s dedication to organizing a Games that is sustainable, inclusive, and in harmony with the Commonwealth’s Games Reset principles.

In comments regarding the submission, Minister Sanghavi emphasized that the 2030 Commonwealth Games would be significant for both India and the Commonwealth. This event will commemorate a century of sporting excellence, unity, and shared values, making the centenary edition a pivotal celebration.

He further noted that India’s Games will be rooted in the ancient philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which translates to "the world is one family,” promoting unity and human connection. The principle of Atithi Devo Bhava, or “the guest is divine,” will steer the planning for all stakeholders visiting India for the Games.

Dr. PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association and the Commonwealth Games Association (India), stated: “This bid embodies the aspirations of an entire nation. The Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will not only showcase India’s sporting capabilities but also exemplify the values of friendship, respect, and inclusivity that characterize our sporting culture. If approved, the Commonwealth Games will return to India after two decades. New Delhi was the host for India’s first Commonwealth Games and only the second for Asia, following Kuala Lumpur in 1998, back in 2010. During the New Delhi edition in 2010, India achieved its highest medal tally in CWG history, surpassing the 100 mark to secure second place behind Australia.

Although CWG 2010 commenced with various controversies regarding infrastructure, the Games excelled in delivering a full range of sports and showcased numerous remarkable performances.
