New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) The Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, described it as “a monumental moment for Indian sports” after the Commonwealth Sport executive board recommended Ahmedabad as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games. This recommendation will be presented to the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport scheduled for November 26, 2025.
In a post shared via his official social media account, the Sports Minister expressed: “A monumental moment for Indian sports! I extend my gratitude to the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport for endorsing Ahmedabad as the proposed host city for the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. This marks a proud milestone for our nation.”
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that this development is a significant boost to India’s aspirations of hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 2036.
“This is a tremendous advancement towards the Union Government’s vision of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. We recently held the World Para Athletics Championship in New Delhi, attracting over 2200 athletes and support staff from more than 100 nations, earning accolades from International Paralympic Committee president Andrew Parsons and elite international athletes. In the past decade, India has not only built world-class sports infrastructure but has also adopted policy changes, enhanced sports science, and provided financial support, propelling us towards becoming a nation of champions,” Dr. Mandaviya stated.
Being the most populous nation in the Commonwealth, India boasts a rich sporting heritage and a commendable track record in the Commonwealth Games, having recently finished fourth in the medal standings at Birmingham 2022. The country also hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, making it the second Asian country to do so.
The Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, tweeted: “India takes another giant leap in the global sporting landscape! The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has proposed Ahmedabad, India, as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games! This remarkable recognition showcases India’s world-class infrastructure, exceptional hospitality, and a thriving sports ecosystem. A proud moment that draws the world closer to India’s vibrant heart!”
Ahmedabad’s proposal underscores India’s dedication to the Commonwealth values and its ability to host an event that mirrors the scope and diversity of contemporary sports. With the backing of the Indian government and the Gujarat State, the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Indian Olympic Association have confirmed plans for a full-capacity Commonwealth Games, unlike the scaled-down version to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in 2026.
