New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) Billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday suggested a connection between Ukraine and the recent cyberattack on X, which resulted in a significant global outage affecting his social media platform.

On Monday, millions of users across Europe, North America, and Asia, including India, faced difficulties accessing the micro-blogging service for extended periods. The outage tracking site DownDetector noted that the peak of the X outage occurred around 15:00 hours.

In statements to the media, Musk claimed that the substantial cyberattack had digital origins tracing back to Ukraine.

"We don't have full clarity on the situation, but there was an extensive cyberattack aimed at disrupting the X system with IP addresses linked to the Ukraine region," Musk was reported as saying during an interview with Fox News.

Throughout the outage, X was entirely non-functional, with over 40,000 users facing connectivity problems and being unable to post tweets or even load pages on the platform.

Confirming that the outage was indeed a cyberattack on X, Musk stated on Monday that he would work to identify those responsible.

"We face attacks daily, but this one was executed with significant resources. It seems that either a large, coordinated group and/or a nation is involved. We are currently tracing the source...," Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, mentioned in a post.

"There is (and was) a substantial cyberattack against X," he continued, asserting that it is an effort to silence himself and his platform, even as he, serving as an adviser to US President Donald Trump, continued to criticize Ukraine.

Recently, Musk also stated that Ukraine's frontline "would fall apart" without his Starlink satellite service, but reassured that he would not cut off access.

He further emphasized his assertions by sharing a post that implied the attack was part of a broader campaign against him.

This post connected the cyberattack to recent demonstrations against Musk's management of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and incidents of vandalism targeting Tesla facilities.

Musk acquired X in October 2022 for $44 billion.
