Nine Lives Lost and 40 Homes Destroyed by Landslides in Uganda

Kampala, Nov 28 (NationPress) Nine bodies have been found, with fears of additional victims after landslides struck Uganda's eastern district of Bulambuli, according to an official report on Thursday.

Ramazan Twalla, the assistant chief administrative officer for Bulambuli, informed Xinhua via phone that the landslides occurred on Wednesday night, affecting three sub-counties and burying approximately 40 houses.

"I can confirm that nine bodies have been recovered this morning. Residents are actively digging through the soil, and we anticipate finding more bodies due to the number of homes that were buried," Twalla stated.

"We are hopeful that the government will deploy official search and rescue teams along with humanitarian aid, including food and temporary shelters," he added, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The landslides were caused by several days of heavy rainfall in the mountainous area, Twalla explained.
