Landslide Claims Two Lives as Severe Weather Strikes West Java, Indonesia

Jakarta, Dec 4 (NationPress) Two individuals were discovered deceased after being trapped beneath a landslide and the wreckage of their home in Cianjur, West Java, as reported by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Wednesday.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari stated that the landslide, which was instigated by intense and prolonged rainfall on Tuesday, also resulted in injuries to one person, who was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, according to Xinhua news agency.

"The severe rainfall led to the collapse of the hillside behind the residence, burying a family within their dwelling," said Muhari.

In addition, in Sukabumi, another region in West Java, the extreme weather since Tuesday has resulted in flooding across seven areas, landslides at 14 locations, and soil movement in four places, including Sukamaju Village in Cikembar District and Bantargadung Village in Bantargadung District.

BNPB has called on local authorities to bolster their preparedness for hydro-meteorological disasters by ensuring the availability of equipment, personnel, and resources, particularly in disaster-prone regions such as hills and cliffs.
