Phnom Penh/Bangkok, July 30 (NationPress) Observation teams are scheduled to be dispatched on Wednesday to oversee the enforcement of a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, as stated by the Cambodian Defence Ministry's Undersecretary of State and spokesperson, Lt General Maly Socheata.
During a press briefing, Socheata revealed that Malaysia, currently leading ASEAN, sent a high-ranking delegation on Tuesday, headed by its Chief of Defence Forces, General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam Bin Haji Jaffar, to Cambodia.
The spokesperson noted that two observation teams will be active; one will be led by the Malaysian military attaché in Cambodia, while the other will be commanded by the Malaysian military attaché in Thailand, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Socheata added that the ceasefire has been effectively and peacefully implemented thus far, mentioning that commanders from military regions along the border of both nations convened on Tuesday, demonstrating mutual respect and cooperation, and reaffirming their commitment to the agreements established during regional meetings.
